Overcoming Barriers to Family Engagement

Across the board, schools, as well as youth and family serving organizations struggle to engage and partner with families. Now– more than ever–schools and programs are working closely with parents as learning partners…and family engagement is critical to young people’s success.

Although there is a wide range of barriers to family and parent engagement, research tells us that kids do better when families are engaged and connected.

Search Institute research identifies critical strengths that are relevant to all families, regardless of culture, income, or structure. Our research is used as a springboard for re-imagining family engagement to focus on identifying and celebrating strengths of families through developmental relationships.
