Urban Fusion uses music to build assets

At our program Urban Fusion, we teach at-risk youth life skills and character building by using the musical arts. We are very innovative in our approach of using music, which in itself has very important benefits to youth and community. We’ve incorporated a great use of the Asset Category “Constructive Use of Time” as youth are now coming into our program, which runs 4 times a week and on Saturdays.

Music has proven to be a great way to involve youth in a positive environment. In order to be successful within the music program youth HAVE to be successful at working within different environments, such as peer-to-peer and peer-to-mentor.

Urban Fusion was founded back in 2003 to specifically reach and teach at-risk youth life skills within a positive character-building environment. Urban Fusion rides on the edge of innovation by using music as the instrument to teach these lessons. Urban Fusion has been a leader in youth development within our community and continues on a successful path as we officially adopt the Developmental Assets Framework as our primary “language” for youth development.
