Training Tip from Tim Duffey, Senior Trainer

Great Resource for Parent Audiences!

Greetings once again TOT graduates! As we approach the end of 2009, I wanted to share a recently revised resource with you that will be of significant support when working with parents and/or caregivers and guardians. As with any audience, you’ll want to provide easily accessible, low-cost, and readily useable resources when presenting to parents/guardians. Your “one stop shop” for all things parent-oriented AND rooted directly in the powerful research of Search Institute is www.mvparents.com. If you’ve never visited the site, I encourage you to do so now. If you have been to MVParents in the past, I encourage you to visit again “for the first time.” With the new (more user-friendly) design and enriched content, you’ll all find something new and powerful to share with those caring for children and youth.

Here are some examples of the site’s content. Major segments of the site include: Why MVParents Works, Everyday Parenting, Discipline and Values, Time Together, High Risk Behaviors, and Ages & Stages. You no doubt get the idea that this encompasses a broad range of highly relevant content to parents. We’ve encouraged our own daughter, who’s a new mom this year, to visit the site for ideas and networking with other parents. The site provides a wealth of material for parents and guardians of any age child.

Be sure to browse the Resources section of the site. There you’ll find a variety of free downloads, E-cards (I sent one to my daughter today acknowledging how proud I am of her parenting. Recognizing the positive really works!), Tips of the Day, Action Ideas, Conversation Starters and more! The site is constantly evolving and helps us all serve well those who are in the forefront of raising today’s young. Visit, browse, access content and leave behind your ideas for how to improve the site. Your input can help ensure the continuous improvement of this important resource while providing you useful support for parent audiences here and now!
