Training of Trainer E-news, August 2009 Trainer Tip

Dear Trainers,

We love having you on the team! Did you know that when you were trained in the Search Institute Trainer of Trainers model – Essentials of Asset Building, Building Developmental Assets in School Communities, Parenting Partners, or Change of Heart – you joined a team of close to 2,000 folks across the country spreading the word about Developmental Assets? These TOT offerings were developed once the 1-day curriculums had proven successful in communities across North America because it was realized that passionate and influential people like yourself are very well suited for promoting positive youth development within your own communities. As a member of the team you each have contributed to a vision of a world in which all children are valued and thrive. These may be some of the things you are doing:

• Being an adult role model who embraces relationships with young people;
• Talking with people in your various circles of influence about asset building;
• Learning and regularly using young people’s names;
• Being intentional about making connections with children and youth;
• Making several Developmental Asset presentations;
• Being instrumental in keeping asset building alive within your school, agency, or community;
• Attending the Healthy Communities/Healthy Youth Conference and sharing your new learning back in your community.

The work of Search Institute is as relevant and important as ever. And the work requires all of us to keep our focus on and commitment to healthy youth. You are an agent of change. You are the heart and soul of a movement to create communities and a society that is more developmentally attentive to its children and youth.

Whether you were trained this year or five years ago, know that we want our relationship with you to be a long-lasting one. Search Institute, Vision Training Associates, and your trainer wish to continue to be a resource and support to you. We can be contacted with your questions, concerns, and suggestions … or to provide continued guidance. Here’s how to reach us:
