About Sparks

We know a lot about the supports kids need to thrive—outside help and attention from adults and the larger communities surrounding kids. But we now know there’s also a powerhouse waiting inside each child. The special ability or interest kids have is their Spark. And that Spark can be fanned into a major talent or passion and, ultimately, a critical contribution to the world at large. With a little help, kids can find their Spark—and learn to make it grow into a positive, life-enhancing energy. Here are some links to get you started:

Positive youth development pioneer Dr. Peter Benson believed that every child has at least one "spark" and should be encouraged to develop his or her interests. Dr. Benson died in 2011, but his innovative work related to sparks continues at Search Institute.
