The Framework of 40 Developmental Assets® (all age levels)
- No written permission required if you want to copy the list(s) for noncommercial, educational purposes. In this case, the assets need to appear exactly as worded by Search Institute. Be sure that appropriate copyright information is included on any copies.
- Written permission is required if you plan to use the list(s) of assets for commercial purposes (e.g. include the list(s) in a book or curriculum).
- Adaptation of the asset framework
We will allow others to modify, adapt, or translate the framework in instances where it is necessary to address local issues or another set of needs (e.g. a different population) if you:
- submit a permissions request form prior to publication along with a copy of your adaptation;
- credit Search Institute for the original framework;
- clearly indicate that the modification is yours;
- not charge others for the basic framework or seek to protect it more than Search Institute protects the original framework; and
- provide Search Institute with a copy of the published list.
NOTE: We encourage communities and organizations not to adapt the framework unless it is absolutely necessary. An adapted framework will not reflect the existing research and your community will find it more difficult to utilize existing tools and resources in its asset-building efforts.
