Parent-child relationships are 10 times more powerful than demographics in predicting whether children are on track to develop the character strengths they need to succeed. That is a key finding from Search Institute’s national study of more that 1,000 parents with children ages 3 to 13 titled Don’t Forget the Families. This webinar will introduce the major findings from the study and invite participants to explore concrete ways to use the study to strengthen their work with families.

By attending this webinar, you will . . .

  • Learn about five essential actions in developmental relationships between parenting adults and their children;
  • See how families in the United States experience developmental relationships and compare that to your experiences working with families;
  • Discover how developmental relationships are associated with key character strengths that are foundational for young people’s development and resilience;
  • Identify challenges and strategies for engaging families in ways that focus on reinforcing and strengthening their relationships;
  • Access tools for introducing this research-based framework to the families you serve and activities you can use to explore and strengthen relationships in your own family.

Webinar participants will have opportunities to ask questions about the study, provide feedback to Search Institute, and identify ways to use the study’s findings in their own organizations, schools, and communities--setting the stage for innovative, relationship-based approaches to engaging and supporting families in preparing children and youth for success in learning and life.
