The National Institute on Media and the Family

The National Institute on Media and the Family

The National Institute on Media and the Family, a nationally recognized authority on media, was forced to close its doors at the end of 2009. After providing a great deal of useful research and resources to parents, teachers, and other caring adults for 13 years, the closing of the Institute was a sad day for the positive youth development field.

A Partnership with Search Institute

Fortunately, NIMF has announced its intention to transfer its award-winning programs, including Say Yes to No, Switch, and through-U, and MediaWise.org to Search Institute, where they will live on and continue helping families make positive, values-based decisions about technology and media.

NIMF Programs and Products

  • We have maintained the Say Yes to No Web site. The SYTN kit and all of the resources are still available at www.sayyestono.org.
  • We are in the process of integrating the tools and resources previously found on the MediaWise.org Web site into our parenting site, ParentFurther.com. Much of the MediaWise content is already on the site, and we anticipate having it all available by the end of the summer. ParentFurther.com is a one-stop site for parents and caring adults to gather resources, tools, and tips to help them raise caring, healthy, responsible, successful kids.
