Maine first lady unveils $3 million research grant
Karen Baldacci, the wife of Gov. John Baldacci and chairwoman of the governor’s children’s cabinet, is announcing a $3.1 million research grant to study two community-based intervention programs and their effectiveness at reducing substance abuse among young people.
The study is to be conducted by the RAND Corporation in conjunction with the Search Institute, with funding from a National Institute on Drug Abuse grant.
Preliminary results of the research are expected in three years.
The announcement of the grant was scheduled Thursday at the State House.
