Trendsetters Through Education was developed by Sharon Eivinsen and Caron Sada. The two worked in cooperation with the Mesa Public Schools to initiate Trendsetters in 1998. It is a community-based program designed to actively engage students in acquiring their own developmental assets that will help them become healthy, caring and responsible adults. These developmental assets are described in the How it Works page of this Web site.

Trendsetters currently targets 5th and 6th grade students at schools throughout the Phoenix- metropolitan area. The Trendsetters Through Education Foundation provides curriculum, training and additional resources that support teachers and caring adults as they create and sustain Trendsetters clubs. This model also allows facilitators and clubs to personalize their activities by incorporating their own interests, talents and community needs.

A key component of the Trendsetters clubs is service. By teaching students the importance of giving back, they develop leadership skills, learn to be accountable, and discover the value of community participation.
