The Summerland Asset Development Initiative (S.A.D.I.) is a proactive movement that was initiated in 1998 to build Developmental Assets for young people. The Developmental Assets are 40 positive characteristics and experiences that young people need to develop positive values and become caring and responsible citizens. The more assets young people have, the less likely they are to engage in high-risk behaviors and the more likely they are to be valuable contributors to their community. It is a movement that engages all community members to take a more proactive role in becoming involved with young people and providing them with opportunities to take leadership roles within the community.

S.A.D.I. provides opportunities for local youth to identify activities that they feel are important to themselves as well as to the community, and provides support and facilitation to ensure success of these activities. The activities focus on developing positive values, skills, and a connection between youth and their community.
