Strategies for a Stronger Sanford works to benefit all members of the Sanford/Springvale community by focusing on the needs of youth. The program identifies local assets to provide constructive alternatives, with the goal of harnessing the potential of young people in its community. The program’s mission is to create a community in which all youth are afforded the opportunity to thrive. It accomplishes this mission by (1) strengthening communication between the Sanford police department and the residents and youth of the Lafayette School neighborhood; (2) continuing after-school tutoring programs; (3) helping to change the direction of youth by creating positive alternatives in a safer community; and (4) continuing its substance prevention and intervention program—Boomerang Program—for youth and parents.

The Boomerang Program is a resource for youth and their families who are dealing with substance abuse. The program leverages support from local police officers, Juvenile Community Corrections Officers, the York County District Attorneys’ office, and the local school district.MORE
