Durham, Durham County, North Carolina
MISSION: To establish and strengthen collaboration among communities, private nonprofit agencies, and local government to support the efforts of the community coalition to prevent and reduce risky behaviors and the effects of substance abuse among youth.
Durham Together for Resilient Youth (TRY) operates county-wide in Durham, North Carolina. TRY creates an asset-rich environment tailored to the needs of a particular community through four basic strategies: a social network of faith- and community-based mentors matched to participant families; a collaborative of community representatives from schools, congregations, businesses, youth, human services, and healthcare organizations to contribute to participants’ healthy development; engagement of youth in a leadership and service learning program to train them to use their power as asset builders and change agents; and a Parent Empowerment course designed specifically to help parents take care of themselves as they care for their children.
Future plans include:
One Durham Everybody Eats Garden and Restaurant. Check out the website and a video on YouTube.
