We received applications from different groups in Moose Jaw and rural communities to create youth councils in those areas. From these applications we will create 8 youth councils in Moose Jaw and 8 in rural communities during the duration of the 3 year project. These youth councils will receive valuable leadership training in building their organizations. These councils will be run by youth and supported by the communities and groups of adults known as Asset Champions. The youth councils will develop action plans of activities they would like to see in their communities for youth. With the assistance of the coordinators and some funding for these youth organizations, the youth will implement their action plans to promote youth involvement and drug prevention.

Some of the goals of the project are:

  • Celebrating youth by focusing on their positives in order to help them succeed
  • Empowering youth to take action and make a difference in their communities
  • Increasing leadership skills and youth involvement in positive, substance free activities
  • Building relationships between youth, adults, and the community
  • Increasing access to resources by and for youth
