The Town of Beaumont Family and Community Support Services has recently begun an asset development initiative! We began by inviting colleagues from one of our neighboring communities that has already begun incorporating Developmental Assets into their everyday work and community decisions.
Although we are in the initial stages of planning, we have held an information session for town council and key stakeholders that included a thorough presentation from our neighboring asset builders, with attendees completing a feedback survey with both knowledge and future participation inquiries. We currently have participation from our municipal council, community youth center, local RCMP Detachment, positive ticketing committee, Eaglemont Christian Church, and AADAC, with expressed interest from other community members and groups.
So where do we go from here?
We are currently planning to hold a public information session for community members in March 2009. We will place advertising and promotional materials throughout the community in an attempt to build curiosity and interest in the upcoming public session.
We are also developing a business case to present to funders so that we can begin forming strategies and moving our initiative forward. We are attempting to secure enough funding to include implementation of two sets of surveys to all youth in our community in grades five through 11.
