Coordinated by Jon Terry of Capitol Youth strategies, LLC, and sponsored by Search Institute and the National Collaboration for Youth, Dr. Peter Benson led a congressional briefing regarding a recently released CDC report entitled School Connectedness—Strategies for Increasing Protective Factors Among Youth. The room on Capitol Hill was filled with representatives from many national youth-serving organizations and staff members from numerous political offices who are ready to continue the conversation regarding positive youth development and to bring the important messages back to our governing officials and schools across the country. The panel featured Kari Gloppen, Health Scientist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as Steven Walts, Superintendent of Prince Williams County Public Schools and a former student, Folashade Akkani.
