Dear Survey Girl,

Dear Survey Girl,

Our district will be doing the Me and My World survey this spring and I’m currently in the process of figuring out what we need to order. I know we want the aggregate report, but what is a sub-report? Do I need to order one?

Sincerely,
Developmental Assets Tame Adolescents

Dear DATA,

That’s a good question. I mean, why would you spend $500 for a sub-report if you’re not sure you need it, right?

The aggregate report is the main report; the report of all the students who took the survey. The aggregate not only reports by total population, but also breaks down the data by gender and by grade.

A sub-report is in the exact same format as the aggregate, but only reports on a sub-set of the data. For example, School District XYZ conducted the survey in Alpha School, Beta School, and Gamma School. They received an aggregate report of all the students who took the survey in those three schools. Beta School, however, feels it would be useful to have a report with only Beta School data reported. This is where they would order a sub-report.

We at Search Institute always caution survey users not to get hung up on comparing data across states or schools or nationally; however, we do realize that sometimes it is helpful to break the data down by school, region, etc. so we can run sub-reports for almost any sub-set you need.

Thanks,
