Parents (for the most part) asserted that each youth has her or his own way of expressing a spiritual side (rituals, prayers, attendance at a place of worship, community service, involvement in the arts, academics). Additionally, they felt that the degree in which youth are spiritual varies. When asked about their children’s spirituality and their capacity for being spiritual, parents asserted that:
“I have three children, three levels of spirituality.”
(Malta)
“So I find they’re united with this kind of music or maybe when they read something also. So I could notice this in their behavior.”
(Israel)
“…He went to pray but never asked any questions. No doubt. At that time I saw him as very devoted, whatever he saw, he would pray.”
(China)
Parents said that they see differences in their children spiritually and that it is not possible to classify spirituality in one category. Additionally, each child has a different capacity for being spiritual.
