Healthy Communities • Healthy Youth - Mission, Goals, Partners
The Mission
The mission of Healthy Communities • Healthy Youth
is to motivate and equip individuals, organizations, and their leaders to
join together in nurturing competent, caring, and responsible children and
adolescents. To accomplish this, Search Institute will provide or assist
with research, evaluation, resource materials, training, technical assistance,
and networking opportunities based on the institute's framework of
developmental assets.
The Goals
The major goals of Healthy Communities - Healthy Youth are:
- National awareness--To raise national consciousness about the urgency and feasibility of mobilizing individuals,
communities, policy, and resources to take positive action on behalf of all children and adolescents.
- Community mobilization--To assist communities in developing and implementing coordinated, and long-term efforts to
promote the healthy development of all children and adolescents.
- Organizations--To motivate and equip schools, religious institutions, youth-serving organizations, and other
institutions to develop and implement asset-building strategies.
- Families--To motivate and equip families to build developmental assets.
- Citizen engagement--To activate the asset-building capacity of all citizens, regardless of age or family status.
- Youth empowerment--To actively engage children and adolescents in building assets in their own lives, in the lives
of their peers, and in contributing to community-wide initiatives.
