Opportunity to Participate in a Pilot Study of a New Staff Culture and Teacher Job Satisfaction Survey

Hello everyone.

Many of you probably have already heard of or have been contacted about the new survey I’m developing my good friend colleague Scott Butler. The following email went out on our listserve a few weeks ago and the response has been tremendous. We’ve heard from school from California to Maine and from Texas to Canada. It’s awesome.

However, I think there are still plenty of spots open, so I want to get the word out as much as possible. Feel free to forward this posting onto your colleagues in other schools as well.

Here’s the info:

I am really excited to provide you information regarding this
opportunity for your school. The following email shares the information you’ll need to consider your involvement:

Search Institute is continually seeking new ways to support and enhance
asset work in schools. Much of this work has focused on Developmental
Assets in students. Nathan Eklund, Head of Education Services at Search
Institute, wrote the book How Was Your Day at School: Improving
Dialogue About Teacher Job Satisfaction (Eklund, 2008) to introduce how
the Developmental Asset framework may impact teacher job satisfaction
and performance. Scott Butler, doctoral candidate at the University of
Nebraska – Lincoln is working with Nathan to develop a survey tool that
can be used to assess a teacher’s experience of assets as defined in
the book.

This work has resulted in the creation of a new survey tool, a culture
survey that measures the presence of developmental assets for teachers
as defined by Eklund in his book. This survey represents a new way of
looking at school culture and teaching satisfaction.

It is our goal to complete a large scale on-line pilot of the survey in
late April and early May. We are looking for a population of K-12
educators from multiple locations to serve as subjects for the study.
The survey will be administered at no cost to your schools. Teachers
will take the survey anonymously at their convenience within a two week
window. The survey should take approximately 15 – 20 minutes to
complete. Each school will receive a report outlining the group scores
from the building, a copy of the complete study, and consultation with
one of the primary researchers to discuss your building’s data.
Interested schools or school districts are encouraged to apply for
participation in the study.

If you are interested in participating, please contact Nathan Eklund at nathane@search-institute.org for further information and the application forms.

Thank you in advance for considering this unique and exciting opportunity. Keep up your great work!

Please let me know if you have any questions.
