Susan Ragsdale and Ann Saylor, co-founders of the YMCA Center for Asset Development and two of Search Institute’s most accomplished authors, draw upon many combined years of positive youth development experience to create inspiring, effective resources for parents, teachers, and youth workers.


Teaching from Experience

Ragsdale, a 15-year veteran of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, includes among her credentials:

  • managing a youth environmental service program;
  • coaching an inner-city sports team;
  • service-learning and asset-building consulting;
  • training and directing retreats and national conferences.

Saylor counts many varied asset-building activities among her experiences:

  • designed and directed a school community service program;
  • founded The Leadership Station;
  • lead a state youth council;
  • has published over 150 articles;
  • works with many organizations such as the Points of Light Foundation.
